This past weekend, Chris and I decided to take a long weekend to go on a mini vacation. Chris was called up to Calgary to help with the power situation a few weeks ago which was followed by a service call in Innisvale so we figured quality time was long over due.
We ended up staying in Canmore after I discovered that a zilion other people had booked up all the hotels in Banff. I turns out there were a bunch of conferences going on, one of which ended up being hosted at our hotel. We left for Canmore on Friday morning after dropping Jaxon off at our friends, Tasha and Bryce’s house.
When we got to Canmore , we spent some time in the hotel hot tub before heading into Banff.
I had booked us a reservation at the Grizzly House after having an in-depth discussion with a couple of co- workers ( thanks Jodi and Justin!). Because I’m the type that over researches EVERYTHING, I had already heard that it would be dark inside and possibly smelly. The restaurant is CLEARLY from 80’s. There are elk heads hanging from the ceiling along with random chairs and a guy on a motor biker. Maybe the best part of the decoration was the phone left on the table that you can call other tables from. Through out dinner, Chris took a few calls with marriage advise and ‘ what are you eating?” questions
We had the fondue and I will warn you, the photos don’t do it justice. The appetizer is either soup or salad ( the french onion soup is life changing). For the first course, we had the bread and cheese, which had wine in it so obviously it was good:
After that, we chose our meat to cook on the hot stone. I had beef and shrimp. Chris had lobster and beef. The course is served with dipping sauces for the meat:
By now we were ready to explode but there was still dessert which was chocolate fondue with fruit. There is no photo as I couldn’t look at any more food.
I would highly suggest the Grizzly Bear to anyone. The restaurant is super laid back and really fun. We spent the rest of the night walking around town. Funny how just the simple things can become the best moments.
On Saturday, we got up early to head out to the Hot Springs. When we got there, a tourist pulled Chris aside and said he looked just like Tom Cruise.. Is this an insult? LOL
No photos of the hot springs so I’m just going to borrow this one ( photo cred hotsprings.ca website)
Chris surprised me with this new coat from Lululemon and a new pair of studio pants
Since my mom and sister had run the Melissa’s Road Race the weekend before, they had a couple of extra 50% off coupons to the Melissa’s restaurant that they gave us. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed in the food but I’m sure it was just a one-off.
Sunday we took our time getting home and picked up a happy puppy from his new best friends house. Thanks again Tasha and Bryce!
While it was only a short get away, it was a nice get away for just us
